The Faculty of Education Sciences and Psychology (FESP) of the University of Latvia (UL) has held first online meetings of the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership project “New-Gen Language Teachers: Empowering Language Teaching with Ethical AI-Enhanced Guidance.” The meetings brought together project partners from Latvia, Türkiye, Spain, and Austria.

The project aims to strengthen the digital resilience of both pre-service and in-service language teachers and to promote the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the teaching process. Particular emphasis is placed on developing teachers’ ethical AI competence, supporting innovative pedagogical approaches and sustainable digital readiness in language education.

UL is responsible for overall coordination and quality assurance of the project. The long-standing expertise of UL FESP in the implementation of Erasmus+ projects – especially in the development of innovative educational materials in the fields of digital technologies and AI in education – provides a strong foundation for achieving the project goals.

Over the next two years, the project will develop a teaching module on ethical AI use in language teaching, a gamified toolkit, and a massive open online course (MOOC) for teacher professional development. During the meeting, partners agreed on the next steps, including upcoming workshops, webinars, and summer schools that will foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The project is implemented by the University of Latvia in cooperation with the University of Granada (Spain), Hafelekar Unternehmensberatung Schober GmbH (Austria), as well as Anadolu University and Bartin University (Türkiye).
