Academic activity

She has been working at the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Art (FEPA) of the University of Latvia UL) since 2008. Since 2016 she has been the director of the study program “Art”, but since 2020 - the head of the study direction “Art” of the UL. Interior and graphic designers are taught study courses Drawing I – VII, Painting I – V, Composition in Design I – IV, Plein Air I, II (she has created several of these courses), as well as leads diploma theses and participates in the final examination commission. In the study program “Teacher” Austra has taught the courses Ethnography and Latvian Folk Art I, II.

Works as a literary editor of books, scientific and popular scientific articles.


Scientific activity

Participated in projects as an expert, for example, “Innovative, research-based study programs of the University of Latvia in the field of study“ Education, pedagogy and sports ”(European Structural Funds expert, 2018, 2019); “Implementation of national and international measures for the development of learners' talents” (European Regional Development Fund expert, 2018–2021).

Austra works in the field of textile art, is a member of the Latvian Artists' Union, the Latvian Textile Art Association, as well as the Latvian Textile Mosaic Association (a member organization of the Eurepean Quilt Association). She regularly participates in textile art exhibitions in Latvia and abroad, has organized six solo exhibitions.
