Head of Department of Art and Technologies
Asoc. prof., Dr.paed. Austra Avotiņa
Department of Art and Technologies (DAT) was founded on September 3, 2018 and it is the newest academic constituent of the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Art. This department unites academic staff – lecturers and professors – whose areas of academic, artistic and research interests involve visual art, design and applied art. You meet with creative and knowledgeable professionals – artists, architects, communication and spatial designers, who are both exceptional craftspeople and devoted educators. As professionals representing creative industries we also promote the development of design research and design education in Latvia. One third of the academic staff elected by the department are in possession of a doctorate and others are on their way to it.
The activities of the department are based on creativity, interdisciplinarity and original approaches, its goal is to develop innovative, economically significant research, design and artistic activities. We continue to develop and improve the field of Arts studies at the University of Latvia, while also promoting achievements of the interdisciplinary of creative industries and education sciences represented in DAT - both in Latvia and the area of international cooperation.
