Student-Teacher Conferences involving parents that discuss the pupil’s current performance, learning development, and learning processes include conceptual elements that correspond to those of Formative Assessment. Numerous studies indicate that Formative Assessment supports individual learning processes (e.g. Hattie, 2015; Black & Wiliam, 2009). In my presentation, I will examine this issue in more detail. I will draw on the initial results of the multi-level data analyses from 40 classes in Grade Two to answer the question positively and to show how the results depend on the qualitative implementation of student-teacher conferences. |

The data were collected with an electronic questionnaire and focus group interviews. Both the questionnaire and the interviews were presented using the students’ mother tongue. Emphasis was placed on language equivalence in Norwegian; Latvian and Finnish versions of Likert scale questionnaire. The date of the questionnaire indicate that the teachers' perceptions differ statistically significantly in many aspects between the three countries. Interview data have been analyzed phenomenologically and they show that there are significant differences, for example, in the students’ perception of how much people appreciate teachers in their own society. It was interesting to find out whether the perception of teacher students already taken up on the programmes varied between countries and universities and what ways. Understanding the differences can help manage education and school plan, student and teacher assessment, and teacher education in general. |
