Proszowice, Poland — March 6–8, 2024 — Representatives from six educational institutions across Europe gathered at Szkola Podstawowa nr 2 w Proszowicach, near Kraków, to officially launch the Erasmus+ project “Encouraging Students to Enhance Their STEAM Skills in Order to Address Real-World SDG-Related Challenges” (STEAMinSDGs). This initiative is co-funded by the European Union under the KA220-SCH – Cooperation Partnerships in School Education programme.

The project brings together schools and educational organizations from Poland, Estonia, Spain, Latvia, and Greece, aiming to strengthen students' competences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) while fostering a deep understanding of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the kick-off meeting held on March 7, 2024, partners aligned on the project’s structure, objectives, and initial deliverables. Highlights of the meeting included:

  • Presentation of the project goals and partner organizations.

  • Discussion and planning for Work Package 2, including a Needs Analysis Report, the STEAMinSDGs Guidebook, an Augmented Reality (AR) Manual, and a multilingual translation and pilot phase involving teachers from three partner schools.

  • Outline of Work Package 3, focusing on the creation of a practical Handbook of Action Plans for teachers and an online EU Project Showcase highlighting best practices in STEAM and SDG education across Europe.

This collaborative project will equip educators with innovative tools and strategies to inspire students to apply STEAM knowledge in tackling real-world challenges, reinforcing their role as active global citizens.

With the initial tasks underway and deadlines set for the first deliverables in March and April 2024, the STEAMinSDGs project is set to foster meaningful educational transformation through creativity, cooperation, and sustainability.
